Benjamin Boerner: What part of the development process did you enjoy most? Is there any part you hated (Like blowing away your computer or killing everybody who comes closer to you than 1 meter)?

MRJ: I really liked seeing parts of the show coming to "life" through what we did here at Raven. It's one thing to see something on TV and say "that's cool", it's unbelievably better to see the same things converted into a game through your own efforts. I especially liked re-creating the TOS Mirror ship segments. Now if only we had that music from the Thrall fights!

I think the part I hated most was having to cut some of the really cool elements that we just didn't have time to implement. Although there was less of this than usual (thanks to very extensive pre-planning most of those items were not "cut" so much as never started) there were a lot of things on the "wish list" that would have added so much to the game. Then again, at some point you have to say "we have to release this game before the sun goes nova".

KH: The two weeks or so when the placeholder Raven voice acting in the game was replaced by real actors was great. Hearing Kim Lathrop as Janeway got REALLY old REALLY fast. =)

JW: This project was a very different project than I'm used to. In previous titles, I'd taken the technology other people had written and created raw game content with it. This took the form of cool monsters, neat special effects, and other interesting game programming bits. On this project however, I did a lot of technology work. I wrote ICARUS, which was one of the key factors in making ST:EF work, but I didn't actually write scripts. I wrote the special effects engine to make all the cool flashy stuff, but ultimately Jeff Dischler was the one making all the cool eye candy with it. The main focus of the game quickly became its story and its Hazard Team, so even when I started work on the AI of the NPCs you blast away, they were mostly supportive roles for the main characters, you and your team, no longer the showcase. Throughout the development cycle that role was both rewarding and frustrating. In the end, I was happy with how things turned out.

BP: The part I enjoy most is seeing something you worked on for a long time get into the game and work and look good. Of course testing the multiplayer levels with the other guys is quite fun also:-)
The part I dislike the most is the feeling of not having enough time to finish what we need to in order to make the game great. there is nothing worse than realizing that you have to cut something out of the game or you have to sacrifice quality in order to keep up with the schedule.

JD: I really enjoyed prototyping effects (both weapons and environmental) for the game. It was really the first time I ever had a chance to do effects, so it was cool to be given the room to experiment.

Benjamin Boerner: Who of you is the best Holomatch player and why? ;o)

MRJ: Not me. I hate to say it but I haven't done a lot of MP gaming since Heretic2 (and then it was mostly 1-on-1 blades only). I used to be pretty decent "in the good old days" but now I pretty much get slaughtered as soon as I spawn in.

KH: I don't know who's the best, but I can safely say it's not me. =)

JW: Sadly, I've haven't had much time to play Holomatch recently. But when we did test, I didn't do too badly. ;) *ahem* first place *cough*

BP: I am of course....Because I'm the Project Leader and I say so.

JD: Oh that would have to be me..heh heh. Seriously though, I didn't spend too much time playing holomatch since that was almost like a completely different project ( different executables - different teams, for the most part ). But since you asked...Mike Gummelt can be pretty evil. Ste Cork is a sniping god. Andy Trabbold, well...he's just Andy...

Benjamin Boerner: What's your favorite Weapon in Elite Force / in all FPS together?

MRJ: Tetryon burst. I especially like the alt-fire. As for all games together, I really think the staff from Heretic2 is the most versatile and fun (watch those body parts fly!) to use. Although the flying head scream from Heretic's Phoenix was pretty amusing too :)

KH: My favorite weapon in Elite Force is the Photon launcher. That thing kicks ass... In all FPS games? The double-barreled shotgun from Doom II.

JW: -

BP: My favorite weapon is a tie between the Phaser rifle alt fire - the Photon Burst and the Arc Welder. I think I like those three because of the feedback you get when shooting someone with them.

JD: I like the alt-fire of the compression rifle, though I sometimes wish we could have done one-shot kill head-shots. The alt-fire of the dreadnought gun used to be pretty awesome, though it seems like it was toned down a bit. In all FPS's? Hmmm, I would have to say the laser guided rocket launcher in Half-Life multiplayer.
